Lately, I have been considering the notion of 'putting down roots' - roots that we didn't come to in way of ancestry or birthplace - but that we grew with our own knowledge and intention. What does it take to feel rooted in a particular place, one that we have chosen for ourselves?
I have lived in (and loved) Victoria for the last 15 years. Most recently living next to the sea, with my daughters, happily observing their evening ritual of driftwood jumping and tidal pool exploration, I see the presence of their coastal roots that will, in some part, inform the people they become. Watching their comfort and familiarity within this landscape inspires me to stretch and deepen my roots to this island. I want to know every nook and cranny of this place. This is home.
